3 years. I can't believe 3 years ago I hit publish on my very first blog post. I remember being so inspired by so many girls I saw on Instagram sharing their cute clothes and cute outfits everyday, and how badly I wanted to be them. Little did I know that it was a full time job for them, and you could even make money from blogging. So, 3 years ago I wrote my first post about my trip to Cancun, and the rest was history.
I didn't even know anything about blogging when I hit "publish" and learned everything from scratch by watching what others did, or by joining Facebook groups. I absolutely love blogging, but at the same time truly feel as though I have also unfortunately fallen into the social dilemma at the same time.
Everyone's blogging journey will look different. Some people succeed right away, and others takes years. I noticed that you start to see the return once you actually treat your blog as a business.
The best part about blogging is creating your own schedule. It doesn't get any better than working from wherever you want, and whenever you want. This allows you to live the lifestyle you like, and spend as much time as you wish with friends and family.

On today's post I wanted to share some insight about what bloggers do on a daily basis, and how bloggers actually make money. I'm also sharing a few of my favorite photo from 2020 as a throwback :)
Being a blogger means that you are a business owner, and your blog itself is considered a small business. To be quite honest, bloggers do it all. Running a successful blog and business involves a ton of different key factors such as:
- Researching
- Educating
- Writing
- Editing
- Budgeting
- Accounting
- Marketing
- Networking
- Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
- Photography
- Videography
- Planning Content
- Time management
- Admin management
- Social media management
- Branding
- Photoshopping/Illustrating
Any company would be lucky to hire someone who runs a blog because bloggers literally do it all, almost every given day. Again, blogging is way more than just snapping a photo, and posting it.
A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A BLOGGER
Most of my blogging days are filled with catching up on brand emails, taking photos of an outfit I want to promote, taking photos for a campaign, editing photos, or creating product collages for my LIKEtoKNOW.it page to share to other multiple platforms such as Instagram and Pinterest. Most of the images I share to my Instagram page are my own content I come up with myself.
From 8:30-11am, I normally check emails first thing in the morning, engage on Instagram, catch up on DMs, and afterwards film any clothing try-ons early on in the day while i have the most energy to change into multiple outfits. A typical try on takes me about 45 minutes to film/save. If I don't have a try-on planned for that day, I'm usually taking mirror selfies of outfits in the morning for my LIKEtoKNOW.it account.
Typically after that, around 11:30am-1pm I'll head out and run a few errands for the day so that I get a nice break after a few hours of work.
I'll come home and eat some lunch, and start editing any photos/videos from earlier on in the day. After lunch around 1:30pm I'll start taking some photos for the day whether it's my own outfit, or for a campaign. I usually snap about 2 photos per day, which can take a few hours until I have the shoot set up, or until I get to my locations.
By 3pm I'm usually done taking all photos for the day, and I'll either start editing the content I took that day, or making product collages via Photoshop/Canva. Just one product collage takes me around 45 minutes to create until I research products to put in it, remove backgrounds, organize it, and link all products.
By 4:30 pm I'm pretty burnt out, and end up scrolling through Instagram and engaging on my feed again in preparation for a post that evening.
From 5-6:30pm I usually make dinner, hang out with Nick, watch TV for a bit, and relax and use my phone for personal use.
From 6:30-8:45pm I begin scheduling all LIKEtoKNOW.it content for the next day to automatically publish, drafting posts on Tailwind to automatically publish on Pinterest, prepping for the evening post such as creating hashtags, captions, and saving the post to my drafts. Some nights I'll work on a blog post instead. It really all depends. That is partially the reason I only post to my Instagram 5 days a week.
From 9-9:30pm is when I upload any blog or Instagram content, and engage with all comments, DM's and my home feed.
Once 9:30pm hits is when I log off for the night and Nick and I spend the rest of the night together until we go to bed. I have an extremely set schedule and we are both okay with that because we both love doing our own separate things.
HOW DO BLOGGERS MAKE MONEY?
A few times out of the month I collaborate with brands for sponsored work. I'm able to play around and try new products, and share the product with my audience if I love it. AND get paid for it!
When I create sponsored work, I'm essentially creating an advertisement for a brand to promote their tools, products, or services. A sponsored post is meant to raise awareness, or encourage clicks or sales for that brand.
Another way that bloggers make money is through affiliate marketing such as links with cookies. If someone purchases something through that link, the blogger will receive a small commission at no extra cost to the buyer.
HOW MANY HOURS DO BLOGGERS WORK?
That typically depends on the blogger... Some bloggers only work 40 hours, while some work up to 80. As a blogger you unfortunately don't get any days off unless you chose to potentially log off social media for the day. There is always new products, and things to promote to create content for. We aren't able to just shut down our computers down at 5pm everyday.
Overall, the reality of blogging is truly fun and flexible, but a lot of hard work. It takes a lot of time, effort and strategy to grow into a money making blog. Trust me, I don't have it all figured it out yet either. I'm still learning new things each and every day.
Somedays I think I have it all figured out, and other days, I want to pull out my hair because I'm wondering what I might be doing wrong. All that matters, is that you love what you do.
